I made this cake for my friend’s birthday, based on his favourite video game - Yoshi’s Island. This is the first time I’ve ever modelled anything with icing/fondant.
This is the finished product:

And here are some “making of…” pictures.

In my pyjamas, that’s how I roll!

The star of the show - Yoshi! I accidentally made him quite fat. But not bad for a first attempt :)

All three delicious layers. The green layer is vanilla sponge, and the two on either side are chocolate. What’s great about these sponges are they’re really light and airy in contrast to the really thick ganache.

And here’s the cake covered in Mars Bar ganache! Yum!

Hills and flowers

More flowers and hills.

Yoshi, and the other icing/fondant fancies!

Cadbury’s mini eggs along the bottom.

And a not-so-good picture of it all assembled!
Here’s the birthday boy at the moment we surprised him with the cake - yay!:
And after we cut the cake! I was complimented on how awesomely gooey the cake was - yay!

This is the first time I’ve ever used sugar paste as I would use modelling clay.
Will post pictures tomorrow :D
These pink velvet cupcakes look like they have ice cream for frosting. Yum!
